Maritim Hotels plans Middle East expansion

German hotel chain, the Maritim Hotel Company is continuing its Middle East expansion by opening properties in Dubai and Cairo.

The Maritim Hotel Pyramids Cairo will open this autumn and the The Maritim Hotel Dubai, located in the new Dubailand area of the emirate and comprising 1000 rooms and a 2000m² conference hall, will be completed by 2007.

It is hoped the opening of the two properties will raise awareness of the Maritim brand in the Middle East market so that business travellers from the region in particular opt for a Maritim Hotel when they travel to Germany.

“The Maritim brand is not yet known in this market,” Gerhard Riegger, general manager, The Maritim Hotel Dresden told ATN. “But when the Dubai hotel and conference hall opens, it will make a huge difference. We will become better known overnight.”

Once opened, the Cairo property, which currently has 122 rooms and suites, will be expanded to 366 rooms and a conference centre, which will be completed by the end of 2007. It is located within the

Pyramids Golf & Country Club, featuring a nine-hole golf course, and therefore will present good opportunities for the inbound MICE market.

The Maritim Hotel Company currently operates 44 hotels worldwide, including the Pine Beach Resort on the Turkish Riviera and, in Tunisia, the five-star Maritim Yadis in Djerba, and the new Maritim Alhambra Thalasspa in Yasmine-Hammamet.

Riegger’s property, The Maritim Hotel Dresden, was the most recent to open in Germany (in May), and the Maritim Hotel Düsseldorf is next on the agenda, set for completion in November 2007.
