Metito has secured a $21 million contract to develop a water treatment plant on Das Island.
The water treatment company was awarded the engineering, procurement and construction contract by the Abu Dhabi Marine Operating Company.
A reverse osmosis plant with treated water capacity of 600,000 imperial gallons per day will be developed on the island, which is considered the centre of the UAE’s offshore oil industry.
Metito will also build a demineralisation plant with a daily capacity of 80,000 imperial gallons, and construct electrical substations and water storage tanks.
The new water plant will replace the existing treatment facilities that have been in operation at the island, located 140km from Abu Dhabi, since the 1980s.
“This project highlights the continued commitment of Metito in carrying out major EPC contracts with high-profile clients and supplying water wherever it is needed, not only are we focused on expanding the our company, but we are also maintaining and developing our obligation towards creating a sustainable environment,” said Omar Al Zoubi, general manager of Metito Abu Dhabi.
Das Island is the export terminal for Adma Opco oil that comes from the company’s offshore fields. The location also holds liquefied natural gas produced by the Abu Dhabi Gas Liquefaction Company.
