South Korean-based Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction has won contracts reportedly valued at a total of US $678 million (AED2,490 million) to provide water and desalination plants in Oman and the UAE.
The firm will build a 678MW hydro-power plant in Oman on behalf of Suez Energy International under a contract worth $510 million.
In a second order valued at $168 million, Doosan will construct a 216MW power plant in the UAE for Total Tractebel Emirates Power and Gulf Power.
The Oman project is scheduled for completion by April 2009; the UAE plant is due to complete by May 2009. Around $6 billion of power plant contracts are expected to come online in the region during 2007.
