Dubai’s Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) has teased students, parents and teachers about the possibility of an extra day’s summer holiday on Sunday.
The education authority was inundated with questions regarding Islamic New Year. Public and private sector employees in the UAE will get a holiday for the Hijri New Year (Islamic New Year), the 1st of Muharram 1441, the Federal Authority for Human Resources (FAHR) and the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MOHRE) announced.
This could result in a long weekend, with Sunday declared the holiday, depending on the moon-sighting.
A tweet from the KHDA said: “Do you know what’s funny? School hasn’t even started yet and students are asking us for the first day off! Do you know what’s even funnier? The answer might be yes! We’ll let you know as soon as we do.”

Earlier this year the UAE Cabinet announced that private sector employees will benefit from the same public holidays as the government sector.
