Dana Gas moves ahead with Sharjah exploration

Company says its plans for work on a 1,000 sq km concession in UAE are going ahead.

UAE-based Dana Gas is moving ahead with its exploration and development plans for a concession in Sharjah, the company said on Wednesday.

The Western Offshore concession covers an area of 1,000 square kilometers and includes the Zora gas field, which was discovered in 1979.

Dana Gas’ exploration plans for the area include geological evaluation studies, followed by seismic surveys and the drilling of exploration wells.

In addition, the work programme will involve drilling, testing and completing two wells, the installation of an offshore platform for immediate processing and production, and the transportation of the processed gas via 25 kilometres of offshore pipeline.

Preparations for work on the concession area are well underway, and reservoir-related studies on the Zora gas field have already been carried out, according to Ahmed Rashid Al Arbeed, executive director of upstream at Dana Gas.

The budgeted costs of the development phase of the Zora field are estimated at $70 million.

Dana Gas and the government of Sharjah signed a 25-year concession agreement in March 2008, giving the firm a 50 percent working interest in the project.
