Siemens Water Technologies has announced the opening of its new Global Water Research and Development Centre in Singapore.
The centre will collaborate with Singapore’s Public Utilities Board (PUB), universities and environmental authorities on water and wastewater treatment projects.
“Our R&D centre in Singapore will allow us to explore innovative solutions for meeting water treatment needs in Asia, while working with some of the best in the industry,” said Dr Ruediger Knauf, newly appointed director of the centre.
“Singapore provides a very unique and favourable environment for Siemens Water Technologies because of the country’s advanced water management needs, its continued investment and contribution to water technologies and research, and its goal to be a global hydrohub,” he added.
H. Jagannath Rao, president of Siemens’ Industrial Solutions and Services division in Singapore, said the island-state had been chosen because it had the appropriate skill sets, was demonstrating good water management practice, and had been been famous for being a ‘hub’ country.
Siemens Water Technologies, formerly known as US Filter until it was acquired by Siemens from Veolia in 2004, is to invest €25 million in water technology research and product development in the Asia-Pacific region. For its first project, the centre is set to work on improving the overall energy efficiency of its membrane bioreactor (MBR) process.
