A female Emirati doctor has had her licence to practice suspended by Dubai Health Authority (DHA) following question marks over her medical degrees.
The doctor at the centre of the controversy describes herself as a general physician and owns a cosmetic surgery clinic in Dubai.
According to local media reports, she is a United Nations Ambassador for stem cells research and the first Arab-American to participate in the Texas beauty pageant in 2018.
However, it was when she revealed details of her medical degree that the social media storm erupted, with many questioning the authenticity of the qualifications, which were attained from the Central American Health Institute in Belize.
It was pointed out that the university is not on the list of recognised institutes of the Ministry of Higher Education.
And this prompted DHA to get involved. A twitter posting by the authority said: “The Dubai Health Authority (DHA) has suspended the professional license of a female doctor as part of its investigations into what has been attributed to the doctor and social media circulation recently.”
It is understood the licence will remain suspended until her licence can be validated by the Ministry of Education.
