Showtime is giving football fans in the Arab world the chance to join its English Premier League commentary team.
The search for a ‘fan commentator’ begins with auditions in Dubai today at Ibn Batuta Mall. It will then be taken to Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and Egypt before returning to Abu Dhabi in the UAE.
The contest is open to Arabic speakers with a passion for football and a personality to match. It will take the form of a reality TV show called ‘Hezz El Malaab.’ Initially, candidates will be tested on their knowledge, voice and delivery, as well as personality.
The final eight will be brought to a luxury villa in Dubai and the competition will be televised on Showtime. During an all-expenses-paid trip, the SHOWSPORTS TV personality will be chosen.
“This region is football crazy and we’re sure we will uncover some gems of hidden talent,” says Jamil Abu Wardeh, the programme’s director. “We’re offering an opportunity of a lifetime to someone out there in what is a unique concept in TV and sports across the Middle East.”
Viewers will be asked to vote for their favourite contestant, and a panel of judges will make the final selection. Once chosen, the winner will be trained by a team of commentators and producers in preparation for the start of the season.
