Students in the UAE aspiring to be filmmakers will be able to attend a world-class film school built on homeground from January 2008, thanks to a memorandum of understanding signed recently between the Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage (ADACH) and the New York Film Academy (NYFA).
The first phase of the seven-year agreement will see the delivery of educational and training workshops on filmmaking and acting arts from January 2008, while full-fledged programmes will be introduced in NYFA next year. The school will be based at the Abu Dhabi Cultural Foundation.
Commenting on the partnership, H.E. Mohamed Khalaf Al-Mazrouei, director general of ADACH said: “This association with the NYFA will help support artistic talent and create an environment conducive to strong cultural and artistic expressions. I hope this initiative, along with other projects, such as the Middle East International Film Festival, will aid us in promoting culture in Abu Dhabi.”
He added that the standards of the NYFA answered all the artistic and technical requirements set by the ADACH for a comprehensive project such as script-writing, camera work, acting, direction, production and management. “The NYFA has been chosen for this partnership following an exhaustive, in-depth comparative study for its quality education and training programmes with other similar institutions in the world,” commented Mazrouei.
