Red Sea Global (RSG) has announced plans for Laheq Island, a new residential community at The Red Sea destination in Saudi Arabia.

The development aims to introduce island living to the kingdom for the first time.

Laheq Island represents the first development beyond phase one of The Red Sea to be revealed.

The destination, which welcomed its first guests in 2023, currently operates five hotels and an airport with regular domestic and international flights.

Unlike previous projects, Laheq will focus primarily on residential property ownership supported by hospitality services when it opens in 2028.

“Whether it’s for guests visiting or residents who choose to own a piece of The Red Sea, at Laheq they will experience luxury living with an enriching resort community that brings people together and fosters life-long bonds,” John Pagano, Group CEO of Red Sea Global said.

The 400-hectare island features white sand beaches, coral reefs and waters situated near the world’s fourth-largest barrier reef.

The archipelago includes 92 islands and hosts more than 2,000 species of fish, many found nowhere else globally.

Laheq Island offers extensive amenities, entertainment and activities for residents and guests

The private residences will incorporate natural timber elements to create shaded areas, pergolas and garden courtyards that reflect the island’s environment.

Facilities will include a 115-berth marina, sailing and watersports schools, a racket club, fitness centre, sports field, 18-hole golf course and park. A souq will offer products and essentials for residents and visitors.

The development will provide beach clubs and dining venues ranging from casual to formal settings, featuring local and international cuisine.

Two luxury resort hotels will operate on the island – one focused on wellness and another offering adventure-oriented experiences.

“To date, we have established our reputation as a developer of regenerative tourism destinations, but we are more than that. We are a vertically integrated real estate developer and operator. This includes creating luxury private residences, delivering on Vision 2030’s goal to make Saudi Arabia a top destination to live, work and travel, while further driving economic diversification and jobs growth,” added Pagano.

Foster + Partners led the design of Laheq Island with a concept called “Forever Garden” that emphasises plant life and greenery.

The centrepiece, The Ring, is an 800-metre diameter structure containing luxury apartments, hotels and retail spaces encircling the island’s lagoon.

“Our vision is grounded in a deep appreciation for Laheq Island’s outstanding natural beauty. Residents and visitors are invited into a serene garden that engages all the senses and offers panoramic views of the magnificent surroundings,” Norman Foster, Founder and Executive Chairman of Foster + Partners said.

RSG has committed to planting 50 million mangroves and protecting coral reefs in the Red Sea region. The Red Sea destination, including Laheq Island, will operate entirely on renewable energy.

The company remains on schedule to complete all 16 hotels in Phase One of The Red Sea. The full destination will comprise 50 resorts with up to 8,000 hotel rooms and more than 1,000 residential properties across 22 islands and six inland sites by 2030. Red Sea International Airport will provide residents access to their homes.

Laheq Island forms a key component of RSG’s expanding residential portfolio, managed by Red Sea Residences.
