Barsha gains LuLu hypermarket

Emke opens second LuLu hypermarket in Dubai as part of its GCC-wide expansion plan.

Retail group Emke has opened a 510,000 sq ft LuLu hypermarket in Dubai’s Barsha district. The store, which is Emke’s 58th outlet, features a supermarket and department store across two levels, and a car park with a capacity for 1000 vehicles.

Apart from the supermarket and department store, the development also has a pharmacy, coffee shops, a food court and exclusive outlets for various brands of jewellery, perfume, mobile phones and computers, among other items.

The Barsha store is the second LuLu hypermarket in Dubai and Emke group plans to open one more by the end of the year.

Further stores are set to open in the next six months, with two outlets planned for Abu Dhabi, and single stores for Dubai, Bahrain, Oman, and Saudi Arabia. Emke plans to open a further nine hypermarkets across the GCC in 2008, as part of an AED3 billion investment.

Emke, which had a turnover of AED4.3 billion last year, employs some 15,000 people across the Middle East, Asia, the Far East and Africa, with interests in retail, manufacturing, food processing, exports and imports and travel.
