Oman has begun a campaign against clothing that does not meet standards for national dress.

The country’s Ministry of Commerce and Industry is inspecting textile outlets that design and sell Omani clothing to ensure no costumes violate national standards.

Action will be taken against clothing featuring modifications, decorations, indecent drawing or anything that offends the public taste.

It comes in the wake of outlets attempting to sell modified traditional dress on social media, reported the Oman Tribune.

Sultanate Sami Bin Salem Al Saheb, Acting Director General at the directorate, said some social media users had published photographs of national dress “modifying and manipulating” the outfits.

Al Saheb urged residents to report any violations in shops or on websites.
