Tadweer, the Abu Dhabi Waste Management Center, has signed four operational contracts worth AED235 million.
The centre signed three-year contracts with the Green Mountains Environment and Transport Service Establishment (GMET) and Train environmental services for waste management, operation, maintenance, and monitoring.
The contract with Green Mountains Environment and Transport Service Establishment (GMET) will see Tadweer control landfills in the city of Al Ain and Al Dhafra region. The company will receive, sort, and bury municipal, commercial, and industrial solid waste in accordance with the set environmental standards.
In addition, the centre signed new operational contracts for pest control services in the northern region of Al Ain city with Alphamed Abu Dhabi Ltd. and Eagle Environmental Services and Pest Control. These contracts will service 74 areas with about 168 vehicles and 902 pieces of equipment and tools.
The capital Abu Dhabi generates about 940,000 tonnes of waste each month – almost the weight of two empty Burj Khalifas. And only about 30 percent of Abu Dhabi’s rubbish is recycled by Tadweer. Last year, the emirate had a goal to recycle 75 percent of all items collected.
