Dubai Customs will soon use metaverse technology into its leadership development programmes.

The move is part of the government body’s commitment to enhance trade operations through innovation and technology, thus contributing to Dubai’s economic agenda, a statement by the Dubai Media Office (DMO) explained.

The initiative will be headed by Dubai Customs director-general Ahmad Mahboob Musabih, who aims to transform customs operations and position Dubai as a top city in the global Metaverse community.

Through the metaverse training program, Dubai Customs aims to provide a “detailed explanation of the technology’s ability to transform customs operations” and increase customs revenues through digitisation.

It covers the features and potential challenges of implementing metaverse in the customs sector, emphasising the importance of utilising the technology securely.

The customs leadership development program is designed to align with Dubai Customs’ strategic plan for 2021-2026.

It blends academic and practical learning through three training modules: Innovative Customs Management, Digitisation of Customs Operations, and Agile Leadership. The program is supported by the Customs Leadership Development Center in the Human Resources Division in collaboration with the University of Dubai.

The program has already graduated 16 inspection managers in its sixth batch, and 137 employees in all functional areas during the last five batches, marking a significant step towards an innovative future for customs operations in Dubai.

Musabih revealed Dubai Customs‘ pioneering will have a “forward-thinking approach” towards harnessing the full potential of advanced technologies like metaverse, which have the power to transform customs operations in unprecedented ways.

As per the statement by the DMO, Musabih’s bold vision for the future of customs is fully aligned with the ambitious ‘Dubai Metaverse Strategy’ launched by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Executive Council, which aims to position Dubai at the forefront of the global Metaverse community, and cement its status as one of the world’s top ten cities in this field.
