In an email sent to employees, it was stated that they “will need to be extremely hardcore” and were asked to click on an icon to accept or leave with severance pay, as reported by WSJ.

The email said “this will mean working long hours at high intensity,” and “only exceptional performance will constitute a passing grade.”

It was reported by WSJ that by Wednesday, members of one of Twitter’s teams were discussing a mass resignation, according to three current employees who wanted to remain anonymous for fears of retribution.

The email came hours after Musk announced the halt of Twitter’s Blue Verified mark following a faulty launch. Inside Twitter, the staff are analysing the cause of out of control impersonations of high-profile individuals, according to a fearful anonymous individual with knowledge of internal discussions, reported WSJ.

This week, a large number of Twitter’s contract workers were terminated on the spot, without prior notice, worsening existing turmoil at the social media platform. Contract workers “lost access to Slack and other work systems,” according to internal communications shared with CNBC by full-time Twitter employees.

Also this month, Twitter owner Elon Musk let it slip that Twitter could go bankrupt, in his first address to Twitter Inc. employees after buying the company for $44 billion in October. Musk said that bankruptcy “was a possibility if it does not start generating more cash,” people familiar with the matter told Bloomberg.
