LG backing its HomNet system

Korean giant LG Electronics has forecast continued growth for its home appliances networking system HomNet on the back of strong consumer demand for smart home solutions.

The HomNet system allows for all home alliances, wired or wireless, to be linked via the internet and a home server enabling, for example, users to shop online.

“Digital lifestyle is fast becoming a reality for many people around the globe, thanks to recent advances in this field,” said Dr H G Lee, president and chief technology officer, LG Electronics, during a recent trip to the region. Demand for the sophisticated home technology was “unprecedented”, he claimed.

LG has invested US$100million on R&D in HomNet, which it launched in 2004, and has contracted more than 50,000 homes globally.
