Motorola turned on with TETRA switch

Motorola has released a new switch for terrestrial trunked radio (TETRA) private network customers

Motorola has released a new switch for terrestrial trunked radio (TETRA) private network customers.

The new switch, Dimetra internet protocol (IP) Compact, is billed as a feature-rich, IP-based device, which concentrates the power of Motorola’s Dimetra IP architecture into a compact solution.

Highly scalable, the switch offers users the choice of structured deployment supporting growth as user demand and budgets expand.

Customers can start with a basic voice system and add features and capacity to the solution as required, the firm said.

Optional services include telephony and data services and enhanced security.

Housed in a single rack of less than 1.5m in height, Motorola said the switch is the ideal solution to meet the growing demand for proven TETRA capability from small to medium sized private radio networks.

TETRA is used by professional mobile radio users in sectors including public safety, transportation, utilities, government, commercial and industrial, oil and gas, and military.

Motorola said the flexibility of its new innovation makes it ideal for rapid deployment in emergency situations.

“Motorola’s Dimetra IP TETRA systems are in use around the world, delivering mission critical communications for nationwide public safety systems and enterprise users alike,” claimed Faris Habbaba, head of Motorola’s global TETRA product portfolio.
