Marillyn Hewson, president and CEO of Lockheed Martin and ranked by Forbes as among the world’s Top 20 most powerful women, will deliver a keynote address at next year’s Global Aerospace Summit in Abu Dhabi.
Hosted by Mubadala Development Company, the biannual summit is an exclusive, invitation-only global event for C-level executives across the aerospace aviation, space and defence industries.
Since taking the helm at Lockheed Martin in 2013, Hewson has overseen record profits and helped its stock price more than double.
To combat declining US defence spending, the company’s first female CEO has cut costs and branched out into growing industries, including cybersecurity and alternative energy with the company spending nearly US $1 billion on acquisitions last year.
Lockheed Martin is also ramping up production of its F-35 fighter jet, which pulled in nearly a fifth of the company’s revenue last year and is expected to fuel additional sales.
About 1,000 heavyweight execs will debate the future of their sectors under an overarching theme of innovation next March 7-8, a statement said.
Hewson’s first day keynote address will focus on Abu Dhabi’s growing status as a global aerospace and aviation industry powerhouse.
“Lockheed Martin has exceptionally strong links with government entities in the UAE so its president will be able to share critical insights into cross-border corporation success strategies,” said Nick Webb, organiser SMG’s managing partner.
Within the UAE, Lockheed Martin has partnership programmes with Mubadala Development Company, Masdar, Khalifa University, UAE University and Abu Dhabi Polytechnic to innovate for industrialisation and skills development to support economic growth.
The Global Aerospace Summit is part of the Abu Dhabi Aviation and Aerospace Week held under the patronage of Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces.
