Qatar’s Qtel announces top level shake-up

Telco makes a number of changes to its senior management, eyes further growth

Qatar Telecom (Qtel) has announced a number of senior management changes as it continues to embark on “ambitious goals for growth”, its chairman has said.

Sheikh Abdullah Bin Mohammed Bin Saud Al Thani said the changes had been made to ensure “that our management team is among the strongest in the region”.

“Today’s appointments will enhance the foundations for growth across our international markets, while at the same time maintaining and building upon our leadership position in our home market of Qatar,” he added.

Under the changes, Dr Nasser Marafih, who was CEO of Qtel Qatar, is now CEO of the Qtel Group, with responsibility for driving efficiencies and growth across all group companies.

Taking on the role of CEO of Qtel Qatar will be Sheikh Saud Bin Nasser Al Thani, who was previously executive director of HR and General Services, the company said in a statement.

Sheikh Saud also sits on the board of Nawras in Oman, which is part of the Qtel Group, in addition to playing a key role on a number of management and audit committees within Qtel Qatar.

Waleed Al-Sayed, formerly executive director of Customer Services, has been named as the new chief operating officer (COO) of Qtel Qatar, the company added.

Nick Dent, formerly COO of Qtel Qatar, will work with Waleed Al-Sayed on the transfer process, before moving to a new role within the Qtel Group.
