Careem has announced the launch of an electric motorbike fleet for deliveries, this will be Dubai’s first and will be supported by Careem’s electric charging infrastructure. Over 1,000 motorbikes are expected to be used by the captains by next year.
This initiative is set to reduce the carbon footprint of delivery bikes by up to 24 tonnes of CO2 per day. The fleet will be available to Careem captains through a subscription model offering up to 50 percent compared to petrol.
The fleet will primarily be used for Careem Quick grocery delivery and eventually be rolled out or Careem Food and Careem Box.
Mudassir Sheikha, CEO and Co-founder at Careem, said: “We’re so excited to introduce Dubai’s first fleet of electric delivery motorbikes supported by electric charging infrastructure. This fleet provides Captains with a safer and more cost-effective ride as they are powered by swappable battery packs that are charged at stations across Dubai. Our customers can have peace of mind that the items that they order on the Careem app are being delivered with a low carbon footprint.”
