Oman’s commercial airlines have earmarked Goa’s Dabolim International Airport for additional routes, Goa’s commissioner for non-resident Indian affairs has said.

The introduction of a direct route from Muscat is expected to relieve the pressure of those travelling via Delhi and Mumbai airports, said the Times of Oman.

“At the last round of bilateral air services consultations with Oman, Goa was granted an additional point of call for the airlines of Oman within the existing capacity entitlement of 11,550 seats per week,” Eduardo Faleiro, told the newspaper.

Indian carriers will also be entitled to fly to Oman from Dabolim airport following the consultation, added Faleiro. The redevelopment of Goa airport will be further examined in a consultation.

Several thousand Goans are thought to be living in Oman working in the service industry and oil rigs, said the newspaper.

Oman is currently building four new airports and expanding two as the Gulf state looks to boost its revenues from tourism. Airports in Sohar, Duqm, Ras Al Hadd and Sur are all currently under construction while Muscat and Salalah are undergoing expansion.
