Saudi Arabia and Finland agreement to air services

Saudi Arabia and Finland have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to regulate air transport, paving the way for an agreement to provide air services between the two countries.

The agreement includes the organisational clauses related to transport rights, the plurality of designating national carriers, determining the number of regular flights between the two sides, and commercial representation of airlines.

It also envisages strengthening bilateral cooperation in the field of air transport in accordance with the regulations, laws and instructions in force in both countries.

It also lays down regulatory frameworks for safe, orderly and sound air transport between the two sides in accordance with the Chicago International Treaty.

The pact was signed between the General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) of Saudi Arabia and the Ministry of Transport and Communications of Finland during the current visit of a high-level Saudi delegation led by commerce minister Dr. Majid bin Abdullah Al-Qasabi to Helsinki.

The air services agreement was among the initiatives to boost Saudi-Finnish trade and economic partnership.

The other major fields of economic cooperation include food and fishing industries, health, IT, AI and digital intelligence, energy and the electronic gaming sector.

During the visit, Al-Qasabi is scheduled to meet with several Finnish ministers, including foreign minister, minister of international cooperation and foreign trade and minister of economic affairs Mika to discuss ways to strengthen ties, partnerships, and collaboration in the fields of trade and investment.

Al-Qasabi and the accompanying delegates will also participate in a number of meetings with representatives of the Finnish business community.

These meetings will primarily focus on the mining industry.

He is also scheduled to meet with Nokia’s president of mobile networks, Tommi Uitto, as well as other top executives from the organisation.
