Saudi Arabia’s port sector registered a 15.33 percent jump in container handling to 694,517 TEUs (twenty equipment units) in October this year, as against 602,210 TEUs in the same year-ago period.
The sector registered a 17.75 percent rise in exported boxes at 202,030 TEUs, 23.02 percent growth in imported containers and 8.49 percent increase in transshipments during last month, SPA reported.
The overall cargo throughput witnessed a 3.34 percent increase from 25,858,562 tonnes in October 2021 to 26,722,044 tons this year.
As many as 1,411 vessels docked at Saudi ports last month, up by 28.04 percent from last October’s tally of 1,102 ships.
The passenger traffic at various ports in the country last month was 44,268 persons.
The jump in operational performance in the country’s port sector is attributed to the continued efforts of Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani) to optimize operational efficiency and attract big-ticket investments for logistics development.
