Abu Dhabi Airports saw 6.3 million passengers traveling through its five operated airports in the UAE capital in the first half of 2022, as the number of scheduled passenger flights take off due to soaring demand.

The airports handled over 94,500 flights, the operator said, and at the Abu Dhabi International Airport (AUH), the emirate’s biggest airport, alone, passenger flights were up 94 percent in the January to June period, compared to the first half of 2021.

“Our passenger traffic results for this year’s first half represent another stride forward for Abu Dhabi Airports and the wider industry,” Shareef Hashim Al Hashimi, its chief executive officer, said.

Passenger volumes at AUH were mostly from India, at 1.28 million passengers, followed by Pakistan (485,000), the UK (374,000), Saudi Arabia, (333,000) and Egypt (283,000).

“The resumption of regional and global markets and successful efforts of airlines to accommodate demands safely and effectively, have been instrumental to achieving these figures,” he added.

Abu Dhabi Airports also operates Al Ain International, Al Bateen Executive, Delma and Sir Bani Yas Island airports.
