UAE’s Hotpack to build SAR1bn production plant in Saudi Arabia

The sustainable packaging plant will be built on a plot of 2.4million square feet over seven years

UAE-based Hotpack Global has announced plans to build one of the world’s largest sustainable packaging plant in Saudi Arabia. The facility will be built on a plot of 2.4 million square feet over seven years, with an expected investment of SAR1 billion.

A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed for the investment within the Kingdom’s Ministry of Investment and the Ministry of Industry.

The agreement was signed at a ceremony in the Ministry of Investment headquarters in Riyadh. The deputy minister of industry and minerals, the deputy minister of investment, the group managing director and CEO of Hotpack and other senior officials were present at the signing.

The investment is in line with the UAE company’s vision to become the world’s top producer of packing products for food, agriculture and retail.

The state-of-the-art manufacturing plant will be spread over the 2.4 million sq. ft land with advanced machinery and industry 4.0 technologies, integrating Internet of Things (IoT), Artificial Intelligence (AI) machine learning, cloud computing and analytics.

Aligning with the Kingdom’s Vision 2030, over 1,200 employment opportunities will be created with the establishment of the project.

CEO and Group Managing Director of Hotpack Global, Abdul Jebbar PB said, “We are excited to embark on this multi-phased project in Saudi Arabia. Availability of local raw materials, strong domestic consumption, export potential and government incentives have helped us to shape the project.”

“Once completed this will be the world’s single largest manufacturing facility in the packaging industry to produce products from diverse raw materials such as paper, biomass, aluminium, and polymer. The proposed facility will help Hotpack increase its export by 30 to 35 percent over the coming years. This facility also marks Hotpack’s foray into the medical disposable products sector,” he added.

“Sustainable packaging will continue to be the cornerstone of our research and we are collaborating with several global brands to help them transition to more sustainable options,” said Mr. Mike Cheetham, Global Business Development Director.

Recently, Hotpack opened its largest manufacturing plant in Dubai, located in National Industries Park to manufacture Polyethyene terephthalate (PET) packaging products.
