The Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development (MHRSD) is set to launch phase one of the Skill Verification Programme (SVP), as reported by SPA. The initial phase will be launched in the capital city and commercial capital, New Delhi and Mumbai.

Five professions are selected for skill testing in the initial phase including plumber, electrician, welder, automobile electrician and refrigeration/air conditioning technician.

Practical and written test of skilled workers will be carried out under the programme based on which they can apply for a Saudi work visa.

The initiative comes alongside efforts to improve the professional competence of skilled workers in the Saudi market as well as enhance productivity and reduce inflow of unqualified workers.

The programme was launched in March 2021 by the Ministry in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Technical and Vocational Training Corporation (TVTC) with aims to verify that all skilled workers in the kingdom have the required skills to execute the requirements of the job that they were recruited for.

This move is followed by the launch of the first phase of the SVP in Pakistan which took place in September. 12 examination centres were established to test the practical and written skills of Pakistani workers before they applied for a Saudi work visa.
