Last ever Bugatti Veyron sold to Middle East buyer

Unnamed buyer from region snaps up luxury car which boasts average price tag of more than $2m

French car manufacturer Bugatti has confirmed that it has sold the final Bugatti Veyron to an unnamed buyer from the Middle East.

Bugatti, owned by Germany’s Volkswagen, announced that it has sold the 450th and final Bugatti Veyron, the 1,200-horsepower car that appeals to the world’s richest buyers.

Bugatti is working “very intensively” on a successor to the Veyron, a limited production line of 450 models that start at $1.8 million, chief executive Wolfgang Duerheimer said in an interview at the Paris auto show last year.

The Veyron successor’s 16-cylinder engine may deliver even more power than the current model which boasts a top speed of over 400 kph, Duerheimer said.

VW acquired the Bugatti brand in 1998 along with Lamborghini and Bentley Motors to create a stable of high-end carmakers.

Under VW’s reign, the super-luxury brand, which traces its roots back to Italian-born car designer Ettore Bugatti, started production of the Veyron series in 2005.

The first model has 1,001 horsepower, which was later boosted to 1,200 horsepower in the more recent Grand Sport versions. In 2010, a Super Sport set a speed record at 268 miles per hour.

Bloomberg reports that the Veyrons have sold for an average of $2.6 million each.

“An unprecedented chapter in automotive history has reached its climax,” Duerheimer said in a statement. “Even 10 years after its market launch, the Veyron remains unique in many respects.”

Bugatti plans to celebrate the last ever car sold milestone at the upcoming Geneva International Motor Show when it will unveil chassis number 450 “La Finale” as a world premiere March 3rd.
