The UAE is clamping down on abandoned vehicles with fines and confiscations, according to a report by state-run news agency WAM.

Authorities in the Al Dhafra Region Municipality have launched an awareness campaign to alert the public to the consequences of abandoning cars.

Vehicles left for long periods of time in parking lots and in front of houses may be removed, the report said.

UAE abandoned vehicle fines   

Abandoning vehicles in the UAE can be punishable with a fine of AED3,000 (£817).

Teams in the Al Dhafra region have been placing stickers on vehicles and raising awareness of the problems dumping vehicles can have.

The municipality highlighted the impact on public health and appearance and aims to motivate people to treat waste in sustainable ways.
