According to recent leaks, Apple is preparing to launch its thinnest iPhone ever with the rumoured iPhone 17 “Air” model as part of its 2025 flagship lineup. Industry sources claim the device will set a “new standard” for premium mobile devices while introducing significant design changes.
Multiple leaks suggest the iPhone 17 Air will feature a dramatically slimmer profile measuring potentially as thin as 5.5mm – considerably thinner than the 6.9mm iPhone 6 from 2014. This would represent Apple’s most significant design shift since the iPhone X debuted in 2017.

The device is expected to maintain a premium display size of approximately 6.6 inches, though some sources suggest it could match the Pro Max’s 6.9-inch dimensions.
The standard iPhone 17 Pro Max will reportedly feature a slightly thicker body than its predecessor, with potentially a larger battery.
Leaked mockups show both the iPhone 17 Air and Pro Max models may introduce a distinctive horizontal camera bar stretching across the rear of the devices.
This could improve stability when the device is placed on flat surfaces, though reports indicate the camera modules themselves may still protrude from this bar.
Photography capabilities are expected to see substantial upgrades, with rumours pointing to a possible 200MP main sensor, enhanced low-light performance, and a 10x periscope telephoto lens for superior zoom capabilities.
The 2025 iPhone lineup is anticipated to be powered by Apple’s A19 Bionic chip built on advanced 3nm+ architecture, delivering improved processing speeds while maintaining energy efficiency. Battery life improvements and faster charging capabilities are also expected.
The devices will likely run iOS 18 with expanded AI capabilities through Apple Intelligence, offering features such as Live Translate, AI Summarisation, and enhanced Smart Widgets.
According to industry sources, Apple plans to discontinue the “Plus” model, which has reportedly underperformed in sales. The iPhone 17 Air will not serve as a direct replacement for the Plus variant but rather introduce a new premium option within the lineup.
Apple has not commented on these rumours. The company typically unveils its flagship iPhone models in September, with 2025’s announcement expected to follow this pattern.
