Apple Inc has been “forced to make drastic cuts” to its Vision Pro production, according to a report by Financial Times, due to the gadget’s complex design and difficulties in production.

The tech giant, headed by Tim Cook, is now preparing to make less than 400,000 units of the headset in 2024.

Limited production for Apple’s Vision Pro

The Apple Vision Pro is worth $3,499 and is being assembled initially by Luxshare Precision Industry Co.

The report added that two China-based suppliers of the components said Apple was only asking for enough parts for 130,000 to 150,000 units in the first year. Plans for a cheaper version have reportedly been pushed back.

The Vision Pro, which was unveiled in June, resembles high-tech ski goggles. The device will have its own operating system, the visionOS, and a dedicated App Store.

It is scheduled to be launched early next year starting in the US, followed by other regions later.
