The UAE will soon introduce a long-term ‘cultural visa’ that applies to innovators, artists and authors, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai has announced.
The announcement came following a meeting with the Dubai Culture and Arts Authority on Tuesday.
As part of a “new cultural vision”, Sheikh Mohammed said that the arts authority – chaired by his daughter, Sheikha Latifa – would use Dubai’s 6,000 arts and culture companies, five creative clusters, 20 museums, and more than 550 annual cultural events to help position Dubai as a “global art destination”.

In a separate tweet, Sheikh Mohammed said that “we adopted the first long-term cultural visa for artists, authors & innovators and approved establishing Al Quoz in Dubai as a creative free zone”.
Sheikh Mohammed added that Dubai will also launch a new “international literature season” with a book fair and events expected to attract over 2 million visitors.

Finally, he said that seven separate “schools of life” will be established, which will help instil young people with skills in art, innovation and creativity.
“We also approved launching Dubai’s architectural identity and the ‘art for good’ global exhibition that will raise funds for good causes,” he said.
