Emirates plane to Australia makes emergency landing in Mumbai

Flight EK440 was forced to land in India due to a passenger medical emergency, and return to Dubai

An Emirates flight to Australia has been forced to land to Mumbai and then return to Dubai after a medical emergency, the airline confirmed.

Flight EK440 left Dubai bound for Adelaide during the early hours of Sunday morning but was soon forced to land in India due to “a passenger medical emergency”, an Emirates spokesperson confirmed.

A source has told Arabian Business the passenger died, however the carrier’s spokesperson would not confirm or deny the information.

After the emergency, the plane was forced to return to Dubai due to airport time restrictions in Adelaide.

Passengers are being accommodated in hotels until the delayed flight takes off again at 11pm on Sunday.

“We apologise for any inconvenience caused by the delay. The safety of our passengers and crew is of paramount importance,” the spokesperson said.
