Ronda Locatelli, Dubai’s Palm Atlantis’ signature Italian
restaurant, has been named the most authentic Italian eatery in the Middle East
and Africa.

The rustic, family-style bistro in the Atlantis hotel on the
Palm Jumeirah received the accolade from Restaurant Magazine, the organisation
behind the prestigious World’s 50 Best Restaurant Awards.

Opened by Michelin-starred Italian chef Giorgio Locatelli in
2008 in partnership with the Atlantis, the outlet was modelled on the chef’s
London restaurant, Locanda Locatelli.

Equipped with four wood-fire ovens, it focuses on serving
traditional Italian cuisine with the use of fresh produce and ingredients, and
was described by judges as ‘uncontrived’, in comparison with its competitors in
the region.

“Pizza and pasta dishes are traditional but delivered with
panache and flavour; the filet of poached beef in salsa verde and
rosemary-infused roast potatoes elevated to mouth-watering heights,” the
magazine said.

Also named as a runner up in the contest was Dubai’s 800
Pizza, which sources its key ingredients from Italy.

The awards are described as aiming to reward “those who, in
every continent, have best demonstrated the ability to offer the essence of the
Italian art of eating.”
