The 50-storey twin-tower Bahrain World Trade Centre development is currently under construction and making rapid progress, and looks set for completion by its scheduled date of June 2006.
The complex can now be seen rising above the hoardings around the grounds next to the Sheraton Hotel. The foundations have progressed in three stages: The initial footprint of the two towers was put in place by December 2004; the foundations then neared completion when Bahrain undertook its largest concrete pour later that month. The third stage is the present and shows the towers as they are now, emphasising the speed at which this development is progressing.
“We are keen to show the rest of the world what Bahrain can achieve when it puts its mind to it. The rate of the construction phase really is a credit to the lead contractors, Nass Murray & Roberts, and to everyone else involved on the project team,” says Claire Hughes, associate director of DTZ.
International property consultant DTZ has been appointed to lease the 50-storey twin tower development, and will also be responsible for ensuring that an experienced management team effectively manages the centre.
Not only will the completion of the BWTC mean a change to Manama’s skyline with twin towers standing at 240 m in height, but it will also bring with it 34 floors of leaseable office space in each tower, as well as an expansion of the existing shopping venue of the Bahrain Commercial Complex to more than double its current size. In addition, the Sheraton Hotel will be re-furbished to become an integral part of the Bahrain WTC.
Promoters say the WTC is set to become Bahrain’s “most prestigious commercial address, offering tenants and visitors a complete business environment, incorporating extensive facilities to develop and enhance trade opportunities, as well as providing technically sophisticated commercial services, meeting rooms and conference facilities”. “We have an opportunity to showcase Bahrain’s strong commercial abilities and develop them through the World Trade Centre Association which will allow local businesses to reach 750 000 businesses worldwide,” said Hughes.
Bahrain will benefit from links with more than 300 World Trade Centres in over 100 countries, all linked through the World Trade Centre Association.
