InterCon Citystars Cairo adds health club

Lifestyles Health Club and Spa opens its doors at Citystars Heliopolis, the world’s 12th largest retail complex

The new Lifestyles Health Club and Spa at the InterContinental Citystars Resort and Spa opened in Cairo in August. Offering an array of exclusive spa treatments and the latest in fitness technology and trends, David Traynor, area director of sales and marketing for the InterContinental Hotels Group Egypt, is convinced the new facility will be a welcome addition to Egypt’s burgeoning spa industry.

“Nowadays, travellers are looking to get more than just a guestroom out of their night’s stay,” Traynor said.

“With the addition of Lifestyles Health Club and Spa, InterContinental Citystars Cairo is an example of how guests can enjoy an entire experience within their chosen hotel.”

The spa’s new team of therapists has been trained to perform a range of treatments from several cultures.

Traditional Egyptian therapies are used, along with ancient Japanese and Thai techniques, as well as Ayurvedic and Native American therapies.

The facility boasts 12 treatment rooms, a whirlpool and a hydrotherapy pool. In addition to an extensive menu of facials and massages, guests can request several exotic body treatments, which are administered on beds situated pool-side. Four LPG machines are also available for advanced facial and body toning.

The gym has been equipped with top-of-the-range weight, strength and cardiovascular machines and includes a dedicated boxing arena.

The aerobics studio offers body training systems, yoga and dance classes and the first Pilates studio in Egypt. These newly available facilities complement the existing championship squash courts and two tennis courts equipped with tournament seating.

In addition, a nutritional advice and consultation service is available through the hotel’s new sports bar and lounge. These new facilities complement the existing championship squash courts and two tennis courts equipped with tournament seating.

Guests also have access to the 470 retail outlets, entertainment centre, cinemas and bowling alley at the Citystars Heliopolis, as well as the only indoor roller coaster in the Middle East.

The 790-room property’s location at the heart of the 115,000m² Citystars complex has caused it to attract strong interest since its opening in spring 2005, according to Traynor, as the US $865 million complex is the largest mixed-use urban development in the Middle East.

“The club and spa add the finishing touches to the property, ” says Traynor.
