Nakheel has completely sold the first phase of its family-focused Al Furjan development in Jebel Ali, Dubai.
Mohammed Rashed Bin Dhabeah, director of Al Furjan village, said sales of the 800 villas opened on 5 September, with all units sold within a week.
The launch of the project had filled a huge gap in the Dubai residential market, he said. Dhabeah said the community had been two years in the planning, after Nakheel researched the housing needs for Dubai families.
“We held focus groups to identify what families wanted in their future homes and found they wanted stronger links and greater interaction with their community.
The master developer will feature family-friendly features such as a school within walking distance of the villas, offering an American curriculum.
“We view this as a social project and through that we decided we wanted to empower the role of women within the family. Before we opened sales we held a ‘ladies only’ viewing day with Johara, the ladies banking division of the Dubai Islamic Bank to give women the opportunity to see the community first.”
Al Furjan is divided into four villages spread over 560 hectares, located next to Jebel Ali’s Discovery Gardens and Ibn Battuta Mall. The project consists of three, five and six-bedroom villas and terraced homes with open spaces for children and families to interact.
Villas in the first phase of the development will be one of two styles, the Dubai, a local architectural style, or the Quortaj, a combination of Islamic and Mediterranean architecture.
Design details are incorporated in every aspect of the development from the creative use of community spaces to the open feel of the villas and terrace homes, which can be adapted for Western or Arabic living.
Within Al Furjan, landscaped pedestrian pathways are incorporated into the neighborhoods connecting cul-de-sacs and open spaces, providing connections throughout the four communities.
The community will include villas, terrace homes, retail, and commercial districts and is due for completion in 2013.
