Bomb alert Brit denies terror, assault charges

Judge expected to give verdict next week in case relating to Emirates flight drama.

A Brit has admitted that he was intoxicated when he triggered a bomb scare on an Emirates flight as a joke.

The 37-year-old suspect appeared before the Dubai Court of First Instance on Wednesday and said he was joking when he claimed that he carried a bomb which would explode in seven minutes on a flight from Manchester to Dubai.

"I said there is a bomb, but it was just a joke ... I didn't mean it," said the suspect, referred to only as MW, who also pleaded guilty to consuming liquor during the incident, reported UAE daily Gulf News.

The Public Prosecution charged him with terrorising passengers and endangering the aircraft's safety.

Salim Mohammad Al Qaidi, senior public prosecutor, also charged the Briton with beating and injuring two Chinese nationals and consuming liquor.

MW pleaded not guilty and told the judge that the two Chinese were the ones who assaulted him and he defended himself.

The suspect, who appeared in court without a legal representative said he couldn't obtain the medical reports that confirm that he suffers from anxiety and gets worried when he drinks.

A verdict on the case will be delivered next week.

Oh well it makes you feel ashamed to be British you always get one idiot who will spoil it for the rest of us. This is a mature man embarking a a flight to England who consumed too much drink. It is frightening enough when you are on the plane hoping and praying you will reach you final destination. I hope they throw him in jail to teach him a lesson because I hear the jails in the middle East are not so cosy as the (Hotels - Jails) in England!!!!

since they had banned smoking aboard airlines why dont they ban alcohol as well ? and check if u already drank beyond the limit before boarding , i had one similar incident with a british woman. i was so scared when she started shouting , anyway the ban of alcohol might stop people who consume alot of alcohol.

They banned smoke 1st of all because the air filters are very costly. Banning alcohol is very hard for their business, I'm telling u, even if they ban alcohol onboard, people will buy from Duty free and drink onboard, i know some people fly on board with their drinks with them from Duty Free. Unless IATA and ICAO try to do something about it, No Liquid is allowed at all to enter the Airplane but also its very hard to make a Decision like this as people also have medical liquid to drink during some flights. I dont drink but i laugh at drunk people, how stupid they appear like, I know for sure in Dubai Airport many Passengers were Not accepted onboard during boarding time because they smell the alcohol from distance even if he wasn't drunk, i saw that with my eye and i work there but its not my job to stop them from going onboard.
