Abu Dhabi authorities have announced the change of name for a major road in the city.

The Department of Municipalities and Transport has announced the renaming of Khalifa City’s Al Asayil Street to Al Nakhwah Street, to coincide with the third anniversary of the Houthi drone attack in the Mussafah area of Abu Dhabi on January 17, 2022.

Al Nakhwah, an Arabic word, carries several connotations in its meaning, and is related to valour and the endurance of hardships in support of others, which reflects the UAE’s response to the attack.

The recently renamed Al Nakhwah Street is one of the most vital streets in the capital’s Khalifa City.

It extends for a length of 6km from Al Fursan Street to Al Bandar Street, intersecting with key roads in the area, including Theyab Bin Eissa Street.

The aesthetically landscaped key road is known to experience a high traffic volume from both passengers and pedestrians, owing to its close vicinity to a number of popular locations such as Masdar City and the Al Forsan International Sport Resort.

Monday January, 17, 2022 saw an attack directed towards Abu Dhabi’s Mussafah area, causing an explosion of three fuel tanks and a minor fire in the construction area of Abu Dhabi International Airport (now Zayed International Airport).

Three people died and six others suffered minor to moderate injuries as a result of the attack.
