Dubai’s Government Human Resources Department has announced dates for the upcoming Islamic New Year holiday.
According to reports in local media the Dubai government has announced Friday, July 21 as a paid holiday for all public sector workers.
It means Dubai government employees will have public holidays corresponding with federal government rules.
Islamic New Year in Dubai
According to the statement, the holiday is set to begin on Thursday, July 20. Official working hours for employees will resume on Monday, July 24.
In line with the weekend, Sharjah employees will have a four-day long weekend.
Earlier this week, the UAE announced the Islamic New Year public holiday for private and public sector employees on Friday, July 21.
This decision aligns with a Cabinet Resolution regarding official holidays for both the public and private sectors in the UAE for the year 2023.
The Islamic New Year also referred to as the Hijri New Year, signifies the start of a fresh lunar year.
Most Muslims observe the first day of Muharram as the beginning of the Islamic year.
