Dubai Police has announced the arrest of eight Israelis involved in the fatal assault of a 33-year old Israeli, identified as Ghassan Shamsyeh.
Dubai Media Office, late on Wednesday, tweeted: “Dubai Police said it has arrested a number of Israeli nationals after they assaulted and caused the death of another Israeli national.”
Eight Israelis have now been identified and arrested, the first two perpetrators were arrested within three hours and the rest shortly after. Dubai Police swiftly mobilised a search team to track the attackers, leading to their arrest in less than 24 hours.
The police said that the assault was the result of a dispute between families of the parties back in their country of origin. In Israel, a 24-year-old was murdered with direct link to this dispute in May.
The residence of the Israelis involved in the assault were tracked and raided by Dubai Police within 24 hours and legal action followed soon after.
According to the authorities, the suspects were tourists in the UAE and encountered the victim at a café in Business Bay where a fight broke out that led to the fatal stabbing of Shamsyeh with a sharp object.
Lieutenant General Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri, Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police said that “the Emirate of Dubai is a city of security and safety, and thanks to the wise leadership of the security services, it was able to deal with this issue professionally, without any complexities.”
