Leaders of the UAE have announced the release of thousands of prisoners ahead of the Eid Al Etihad National Day holidays.

In total more than 5,595 prisoners were released as the rulers of the seven emirates ordered they be allowed out of correctional facilities.

President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan ordered the release of 2,269 inmates from correctional institutions across the UAE on the occasion of the 53rd Eid Al Etihad.

He also pledged to cover all fines and penalties imposed on the inmates, who had been sentenced for a variety of offences.

This initiative reflects Sheikh Mohamed’s commitment to providing released prisoners with an opportunity to rebuild their lives, achieve family stability, and contribute once again to their communities.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, ordered the release of 1,169 convicts from Dubai’s correctional and penal institutions of various nationalities, on the occasion of the 53rd National Day.

His order comes in line with the spirit of the Union and its associated meanings of tolerance and giving, and the keenness to grant those included a new opportunity to return to the right path and resume their lives as good and useful people for themselves and their society.

Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, pardoned 1,053 inmates.

Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, ordered the release of 683 inmates from the Sharjah Correctional and Punitive Institution Department in celebration of the 53rd Eid Al Etihad.

Sheikh Humaid bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Ajman, ordered the release of 304 prisoners from punitive and correctional institutions in Ajman.

The inmates of various nationalities were selected based on good conduct and behaviour.

The Ruler of Ajman expressed his hope that the released prisoners would reintegrate into society and public life after serving their sentences, and that the joy of Eid Al Etihad would be complete with their reunion with their families.

Sheikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Fujairah, ordered the release of 118 prisoners from punitive and correctional institutions in Fujairah.

The inmates of various nationalities were selected based on good conduct and behaviour.

The gesture is part of Sheikh Hamad’s desire to give prisoners an opportunity to start a new life and bring joy to their families.

Sheikh Saud bin Rashid Al Mu’alla, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Umm Al Qaiwain, also ordered the release of a number of prisoners, who have demonstrated good conduct during their sentences in punitive and corrective institutions in Umm Al Qaiwain
