More than 99 percent of companies are obeying the UAE’s mandatory midday break for labourers, according to the Labour Ministry.
Figures released by the ministry revealed that out of 25,248 companies inspected, 99.41 percent (25,100) of companies are complying with the rules concerning labourers working outside during summer months, news agency WAM reported.
The midday break rule took effect on June 15 and will last until September 15.
Maher Al Obed. assistant Labour Minister for Inspection, said 148 firms had failed to allow their workers to take a rest from 12.30-3pm.
He said offenders will have the classification of their firms downgraded by the ministry, and will be fined AED15,000 for each violation.
He said that awareness campaigns had covered 17,296 sites to educate site foremen and supervisors about the rule.
The ministry, he added, was planning to conduct 30,000 awareness visits and 50,000 field inspections during the three-month ban.
