The developer behind plans to build Dubai Sustainable City are reportedly set to issue tenders in February for some key components of the project.
Diamond Developers will issue a AED300m ($82m) contract early next year for construction of a school, an university and a planetarium within its AED1.1bn Sustainable City project in Dubailand, Dubai, Zawya reported.
“We will be issuing an AED300 million tender for construction of a school, an university and a planetarium by February next year,” Faris Saeed, chairman of Diamond Developers, was quoted as saying.
He said Jeet Contracting, the company’s in-house construction arm, will build the 500 villas in the master development.
“We are expecting to get the building permit soon from Dubai Municipality to start construction of the first phase of villas. We plan to handover the first phase by end-2014,” Saeed added.
Modular Design Engineering Consultants are working on the residential components, Al Ajmi Engineering on the mixed use (retail, offices and mosque) while Arif & Bintoak Consulting Architects and Engineers are the consultants on the school, country club, resort, sustainability centre of excellence and planetarium.
Dubai Sustainable City will feature a green belt with 20,000 trees and a 5,000 sq ft-long water canal. At least 20 percent of the construction area will be built with eco-friendly materials while landscaping will cover around 60 percent of the project, Zawya added.
Solar farms will be spread over 600,000 sq ft while 100 percent of the sewage water will be recycled.
The Sustainable City project is set for completion in 2015, according to the company’s website.
