More than one million students will report to their schools today across the UAE, marking the start of the third and final semester of 2016-2017, according to the Ministry of Education.
The ministry called on administrative and teaching staff to create an appropriate atmosphere for students and to begin their final term with more preparedness to achieve the best results, it said in a statement published on state news agency WAM.
It stressed the importance of the students’ readiness and determination to achieve their academic ambitions through perseverance and diligence, and to do their utmost to attain the highest scientific grades.
The last day of the new semester will be June 22, while the teaching staff will finish the academic year on July 6. Teachers will return on September 3 to start the next academic year of 2017-18, while students will be back in school on September 10.
The ministry also announced that four new school books will be part of the social studies and civics subject in the third semester. One of them is titled “Sard Al Zat” [My Early Life], authored by Sharjah ruler Dr Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammad Al Qasimi.
The second book is titled “Immunising Youths from Destructive Ideas”, by Dr Farouk Hamada, advisor to the court of Abu Dhabi crown prince Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. The other two books are “Sustainable Development: The UAE is a Role Model” and “Social media: From Tribes to Facebook”.
The objective of these books is to create a generation that is morally, mentally, intellectually and cognitively oriented, the ministry said.
