Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Commerce says the importing of cars into the Kingdom can be done by individuals and is not limited to car agencies.

Majid Al-Kassabi, Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Commerce said that showroom owners and private individuals are able to import vehicles

The news comes as there is an acute shortage of vehicles and delays in new cars arriving in the Kingdom.

Car imports in Saudi Arabia

As KSA looks to bounce back from the Covid-19 pandemic and with global supply chain issues causing a hike in car prices in the Kingdom, demand for vehicles is outstripping supply.

In remarks during the Iron and Steel Conference last month in Riyadh, Saudi Industry Minister Khaled al-Falih said that the global energy crisis and pandemics have disrupted ports operations and supply chains.

The Ministry of Commerce acknowledged previously that there were large lists of vehicle reservations and delivery delays, due to the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic and the supply chain crisis.

Al-Kassabi said the ministry had instructed car companies to increase production capacity and give import priority to individuals, while reducing the share given to showrooms in the Kingdom.
