At least 12 people were injured after a massive blaze engulfed a residential tower in Sharjah on Tuesday night.
According to Sharjah Civil Defence, the fire began on the tenth floor of the 51-storey Abbco Tower in Sharjah shortly after 9pm before it quickly spread through the building.

The building’s tenants were evacuated by teams from two Sharjah civil defence stations, who also called in the police air wing and a number of ambulances to the scene. Rescue teams also used drones to respond to the incident.
Quoting civil defence officials, various local media outlets reported that of the injured, five were transported to local hospitals and seven treated on the scene.
Local authorities have yet to determine the cause of the blaze, which also forced the evacuation of several nearby buildings.
As of Wednesday morning, Sharjah’s civil defence teams were still conducting cooling operations at the scene of the fire.
Officials from the Emirates Red Crescent were on hand on Tuesday night to take the names of tenants and help arrange temporary housing.
Additionally, the Consul-General of the Philippines, Paul Raymund, was quoted by Gulf News as saying that Filipinos affected by the blaze should contact the consulate through WhatsApp to arrange assistance.
“We stand to assist our kabayans [compatriots] who are victims of this terrible incident in terms of their personal documentation, including getting new passports of any pertinent documents, including getting new passports or any pertinent documents,” he said.
