Four Seasons Hotel opens in Mumbai

Bilkey Llinas mixes Indian tradition with its own design philosophy.

Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts recently opened its first property on the Indian subcontinent: Four Seasons Hotel Mumbai. Through the hotel’s 33-storey glass tower, Bilkey Llinas were set with the interior design task.

“The design brief set for us, was to follow the classical elegance and restrain of Four Seasons. The Bilkey Llnas design philosophy is based on collaborating with the owner and the management to create innovative spaces that are elegant, comfortable and new in design, so this worked perfectly for us,” said Oscar Llinas, vice president of Bilkey Llinas.

Being sensitive to Indian cultural traditions, as well as adopting the Four Seasons Hotels’ strict manufacturing codes, Bilkey Llinas was able to adapt its design philosophies to provide Mumbai with its own contemporary space.

“The theme of the hotel is one of simplicity and elegance, with each aspect, from colours to materials, were chosen to complement the architectural stone and wood veneers.

“Each of our hotel designs is different. Each hotel has its own personality that sets them apart from each other. The Four Season Mumbai is special due to the narrowness of the lobby, where we had to emphasise the height with onyx architraves to create light bridges. Various artworks were also used to create focal points throughout the entire design of the hotel,” Llinas concluded.
