Saudi Arabia orders construction firm to follow new guidelines

The new guidelines will be enforced on Saudi Arabia’s commercial roads

Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Municipal and Rural Affairs Majid bin Abdullah Al-Hogail has approved a new guide for covering under-construction buildings. The guide is aimed at improving the urban environment and ensuring the health and safety of construction projects and road users.

It will also streamline and organise construction sites and licensing standards in accordance with the guideline presented in the 18-page booklet.

The new guideline will be enforced on commercial roads that have clear criteria and standards outlined in the guide, which covers the entire kingdom.

The enforcement deadline is set to be six months from March 15, 2023.

According to the Ministry, the covering must be uniform within the building with a tarpaulin made of high-density polyethylene that meets Saudi Arabia’s standards.

The covering must be of a single color and installed over scaffoldings that surround buildings to insulate work areas from the roads and their users. This will protect workers and passers-by from construction work.

The coverage should be located in the area surrounding the facility, in addition to polyclinics and external publications.

The commercial construction works in the project, in addition to treating the visual distortion on the commercial streets in the city.

The coverage also includes other types approved by the guide, such as the aesthetic coverage, which is with the same materials but of an aesthetic nature, such as drawings or pictures.

The guide requires the geographical location, address, main address, largest address, an appendix, and more, and the fact that the building has been issued a valid building or restoration permit.

The Ministry of Municipal, Rural Affairs and Housing has called on building owners within the scope shown in the guide to take advantage of the current grace period and improve the quality of life.
