A 4D cinema is being created at an indoor Qatar theme park, offering interactive seats to add physical effects to movie watching.
The $50m Gondolania Theme Park at Villaggio Mall Doha has announced it is building the country’s first 4D cinema.
A 4D film combines a 3D film with physical effects in the cinema, which occur in synchronisation with the film.
Standard effects of the experience will include front air blasts, front water spray, neck tickler, leg tickler and seat vibrators.
For example, as a jellyfish swims by in 3D, the audience will also feel its tingling tentacles brush along their arms.
The new cinema is being designed and equipment supplied by Westech in Zurich, one of the world’s premier entertainment system suppliers.
The new 4D cinema at Gondolania is the first of its kind to provide a functional hybrid between static or simple movement chairs and full motion simulators, the company said in a statement.
The statement said the cinema will offer a a range of specially produced 4D movies including Cosmic Race, African Adventure, The Haunted Mine, Jet and Jen, Magic Carpet and Robot of Mars.
Gondolania is also launching a new bowling alley with all the equipment (balls, racks ball return stands and seats) being designed by Pininfarina, the Italian world-famous designer of Ferrari and Maserati.
