Apple is reportedly looking to further expand its retail chain network in India, with plans to open four more company-owned stores.
India’s tech capital Bengaluru and the Western Indian city of Pune could see new Apple stores opening, besides additional stores in Delhi-NCR (National Capital Region) and Mumbai where the iPhone maker opened its first two stores in April 2023.
The company is also bullish on ramping up its manufacturing in India, with already commencing production of the entire iPhone 16 lineup from the country, Moneycontrol reported.
“Our stores are incredible places to experience the magic of Apple, and it’s been wonderful to deepen our connection with our customers in India.
“We’re thrilled to build our teams as we plan to open more stores in India, because we’re inspired by the creativity and passion of our customers across this country,” Moneycontrol quoted Deirdre O’Brien, Apple’s senior vice-president of retail, as saying.
Analysts suggested that the tech giant’s retail expansion was prompted by the success of its Delhi and Mumbai retail outlets, which have made significant contributions to the company’s overall sales in the country.
Navkendar Singh, associate vice-president of IDC India said the proposed retail footprint expansion will further strengthen Apple’s positioning in the premium device market in India.
Apple started manufacturing the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max in India through its contract manufacturing partners, Foxconn and Pegatron.
The made-in-India iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max will soon be available for local customers and for export to select countries worldwide.
Apple began manufacturing iPhones in India in 2017 and is also making older generation iPhones, including the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus, and iPhone 13.
